The NFL salutes the American Society for Public Administration!

For the tenth time, ASPA, through the National Campaign for Public Service sponsored the National Forensic League Extempore Finals. ASPA was co-sponsor with PER (Public Employees Roundtable), for the United States Extemp category.

The American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) is a professional association founded in 1939 to advance the science, processes, art, and image of public administration. Many young people, (and older people, too) ask, "What is public administration?"

Perhaps still the best answer is that coined by Woodrow Wilson in June, 1887 in his article The Study of Administration, Political Science Quarterly, vol. II, no. 1, when he said, "It is the object of administrative study to discover, first, what government can properly and successfully do, and secondly, how it can do these proper things with the utmost possible efficiency and at the least possible cost either of money or of energy."

ASPA members work for or with government (Federal, State, Local), teach public administration theory and practice, and are students of public administration, domestic and international as well.

The National Campaign for Public Service reaches out to other organizations to produce and take part in public discussions about the value and necessity of a professional career public service; develops ways in which ASPA can actively promote recognition of the competence, integrity, and dedication of the vast majority of those in the public service; actively advocates the public service as an honorable profession which is essential to the functioning of any democratic society; and identifies ways in which to actively engage critics in discussion to inform them about what is working in the public serivce at all levels.

The ASPA Endowment, Inc., governed by a Board of Directors, chaired by Leonard Desautelle, is a separate foundation which was created by the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA):

  • For charitable, educational, and scientific purposes, including the improvement of the policies, processes, personnel and institutions of public administration;
  • To promote scholarly inquiry and discussion concerning public administration;
  • To sponsor and stimulate research and publications concerning public administration; and
  • To sponsor other activities designed to improve the art and science of public administration.

The Endowment, along with ASPA and the Public Employees Roundtable (PER) are proud sponsors of the United States Extempore category of the National Forensic League (NFL) national finals.

The NFL would like to thank the American Society for Public Administration for its dedication and support!
