| NFL staff member Joyce Krueger recently returned from the Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament which was held in St. Louis, Missouri from March 16 to 19 at Webster University. At the tournament, Joyce was presented the Golden Gavel Award for her service, vision and dedication. Joyce has been an NFL staff member since 1993, and has been responsible for maintaining Pi Kappa Delta records since 1997. Pi Kappa Delta was originally formed at Ripon College, Ripon, (WI). At one time, archival materials were stored at William Jewell College and permanent records and supplies were located in Fargo, North Dakota. The National Forensic League invited Pi Kappa Delta to relocate its National Office in Ripon and in 1997 Pi Kappa Delta's National Council directed the President and Secretary-Treasurer to take the necessary steps to move all of Pi Kappa Delta's materials to its new permanent home in Ripon. | ![]() |
Prior to the National Tournament, Joyce is busy throughout the year. Her responsibilities include providing telephone and member/chapter service for PKD chapters across the country, maintaining membership and chapter records, record awards presented to coaches who have been coaching 10,15,20, 25 or more years, record schools receiving awards for having the most members in the last two years, record schools who have been a member the longest, mailings, merchandise inventory and distribution, as well as special projects for the National Council.
At the Pi Kappa Delta tournament, Joyce has many responsibilities. On registration day, Joyce makes sure all school dues are collected and all students who register for the tournament are paid members. After registration, Joyce gathers all the tournament payments to enter into the computer, distributes new membership cards and pins to new members. During the four days the tournament is going on, Joyce sells PKD merchandise. She sees that all the awards are in order for presenting to coaches based on their years of service, schools having the most members in the last two years, schools having been a member the longest and when Joyce returns to Ripon, records all this information.
