The NFL achieves its mission through the cooperative efforts of its sponsors, partners and vendors. Among other benefits, these organizations work with us to award scholarships and provide coach education opportunities. The following like-minded organizations promote learning, advocacy, and values in line with the NFL's mission. These cherished partnerships advance youth leadership and expand the range of opportunities available to young people.
The following contest programs meet a number of cross-curricular goals to extend communication skills. The People Speak asks students to engage members of the public to raise awareness of issues, to implement solutions through service, and to document/blog their experiences. The International Public Policy Forum cultivates students’ abilities in developing convincing written arguments, bridging the gap between written and oral communication. Students who participate in these opportunities not only earn NFL merit service points above and beyond the non-district/national point recording limit, but could earn an opportunity to win a travel experience of a lifetime.
Since 2003, the United Nations Foundation has teamed with NFL to heighten public awareness and advocacy concerning internationally relevant issues. The People Speak Global Debates were established to allow students to be heard on issues currently facing the global community, and enabling them to serve as advocates on real world matters. For fall of 2009, we're adding the concept of holding a performance showcase, so students more oriented toward interpretive or platform speaking events have an outlet for expression in advocacy of issues. The NFL offers schools, students and coaches service point and monetary incentives to participate!
The Bickel & Brewer/New York University International Public Policy Forum (IPPF) is the only national contest that gives high school students the opportunity to participate in written and oral debates on issues of public policy. More than 100 high schools, representing 26 states, registered for the 2008-2009 competition by submitting qualifying essays. The field is first narrowed to 32 schools, and eventually, to an Elite 8 who receive an all-expenses paid trip to debate each other in New York City! All teams advancing received cash prizes. Bellaire High School in Bellaire, Texas, took home the grand prize - $10,000 in scholarship money and the Bickel & Brewer Cup.
NFL and IDEA offer a Middle School National Tournament.
IDEA has partnered with the NFL since 2004 to help enable the organization to host international students at National Tournament, hailing from such countries as Argentina, China, Haiti, Moldova, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Uzbekistan, and Zimbabwe.
The National Research Center for College and University Admissions (NRCCUA) has been building educational bridges between college-bound high school students, high school counselors and college admissions officers for more than 35 years. Through annual surveys they gather information on student attitudes and educational plans from nearly 5.5 million students in over 20,000 public and private high schools nationally. The survey is voluntary and students participate at no cost. This valuable research is published and distributed to more than 1,500 member colleges and universities so they can better identify high school students who meet their institutions' admission profiles. In addition to hearing from colleges and universities, students may also hear from non-profit and for-profit organizations offering educational opportunities such as college admissions services, financial aid, career information, extracurricular enrichment and recognition programs.
