NFL Comes Together for NC Coach

When coach Patrick Moss welcomed a new daughter March 15, mother and baby experienced serious health problems. Join the Carolina NFL members in reaching out to the Moss family.

Chase High School coach Patrick Moss is a member of the Carolina West NFL District Committee and is also an executive committee member of the Tarheel Forensic League, the North Carolina state forensics association. With a North Carolina school that sits only about five miles from the South Carolina state line, Patrick has become a well known and highly respected coach in both states.

Patrick’s wife Kim was taken to the hospital Monday, March 15 where doctors performed an emergency c-section. Kim delivered a one pound, five ounce, 11 inch baby girl, Rhonin, only 23 weeks into the pregnancy. Rhonin remains in critical condition. However, doctors are saying she is doing remarkably well and are now giving her a 60 percent chance of survival, a much better chance than she was given at delivery. Patrick's wife Kim was originally expected to make a full recovery. However, on Tuesday Kim began bleeding internally and had to undergo two additional surgeries. Doctors are still having a difficult time controlling her bleeding and she has developed a bowel blockage and a partial kidney failure. She remains in intensive care.

Regardless of how quickly a recovery is made, the Moss family is facing an incredible amount of medical bills. Coaches and students are being given a chance to contribute this weekend at the Carolina West/South Carolina joint district tournament and next weekend at the Tarheel East district tournament. Coaches from outside these districts who want to contribute may do so by making a check out to "Tarheel Forensic League - Patrick Moss Fund" in care of Keith Pittman, Asheville High School, 419 McDowell St. Asheville, NC 28803.
