Debaters: Take on the World!

Is your debate team ready to take on the world? The Bickel & Brewer Foundation and New York University invite you to participate in the 2009-2010 International Public Policy Forum (IPPF). The IPPF is the only contest that gives high school students from across the globe the opportunity to participate in written and oral debates on issues of public policy. Your team can compete for a $10,000 grand prize, the "Bickel & Brewer Cup," and an all-expenses-paid trip to the IPPF Finals in New York! The competition is free, and students earn NFL points for each level of participation.

The competition begins October 28, when schools submit a Qualifying Essay in the affirmative or negative of the 2009-10 IPPF Topic, "Resolved: The United Nations should substantially increase humanitarian assistance for persons living in poverty." The top 32 teams are chosen. These schools advance to compete in a single-elimination written debate contest. The process continues for several rounds, until the final eight teams emerge. These eight schools win all-expense-paid trips to New York City to compete in the IPPF Finals! At the finals, the schools supplement their written scholarship with oral advocacy - in a unique and dynamic competition.

Qualifying round essays are due October 28. For more information and writing samples, visit www.bickelbrewer.com/debate.
